Second Chance Pet Adoptions was founded in December 1997 by a small group of dedicated volunteers with a true love of animals and the determination to help find permanent, loving homes for some of Kansas City’s “unwanted” pets.
Second Chance Pet Adoption is an all volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and displaced dogs and cats find loving homes. We strive to educate the public about the pet over population problem in our area and across the nation and stress the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals. Each year 6-8 million cats and dogs enter shelters.
Each year 3-4 million cats and dogs are euthanized—that’s 56% of the dogs and 71% of the cats.
Our adoptable cats, kittens, dogs and puppies come to us mainly from area kill shelters and humane societies.
Some of the puppies and dogs come from puppy mills that have been shut down or are “overstocked” or “reducing inventory”.
Our volunteers foster the dogs and puppies in their homes, socializing and training them just as they would a new member of their family.
By having the animals in our homes, we get to know the personality of each of them and are better able to match them to the forever home suited to them.
